The overall activity that surrounds the production of goods and services. Country economies are measured by GDP or GNP, but measurements should be taken in context of the underlying inflation. At one time, money supply was a crucial economic indicator, but its importance has shrunk with the change of emphasis on controlling the economy through the price of money, or interest rates, rather than the supply of money.
